Teaching

University of Oxford, Lectures on Kinetic Theory of Stellar Systems

This 9-lecture course forms the third part of the series Kinetic Theory in the University of Oxford’s Master Course in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics (MMathPhys). I first lectured the course in Oxford in November 2022 (having delivered a trial-run at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton in October 2022), then taught it again in Oxford in November 2023. I am lecturing the Oxford course for the third time in November 2024. This year’s lectures will be held in the Lindemann Lecture Theatre in Weeks 7 and 8 of Michaelmas term, on Mondays from 10am-11.30am & 3pm-5pm, and Tuesdays 12pm-1pm.

The lecture notes for this course have now been greatly improved and extended and are available as a Tutorial Article here. Concise handwritten notes, covering everything I wrote on the blackboard in 2023, are available here. The 2024 problem set is available here.

NBIA Summer School on Astrophysical Dynamics of Gravitating Systems

I gave a 4-lecture course in kinetic theory/galactic dynamics as part of the 2024 NBIA summer school. Details (including videos of lectures) are available here.
